Aqualand For Homeless Youth - Partnership with Property Industry Foundation
It may surprise you to know, that despite Australia ranking amongst the top five wealthiest countries on earth, over 40,000 young people aged 15–24 sought help from homelessness services throughout Australia in 2021/22. That’s an alarming number.
The most common reasons these children and young adults sought assistance ranged from the ongoing housing crisis, which also impacts the broader community, escaping family and domestic violence, and relationship or family breakdown.
We all know affordable, suitable and stable housing is fundamental in ensuring the economic, social, psychological and physical wellbeing of young people. And it’s something most of us take for granted. Yet, despite living in ‘the lucky country’, this problem persists.
This is why we’re strong advocates of all players in the property industry doing all they can to help address Sydney’s ongoing housing crisis. With our collective housing skills and resources, we believe our industry has an obligation to find viable solutions, especially for those most in need, like those supported by the Property Industry Foundation (PIF).
As such, we’re proud to continue our Platinum partnership with PIF, which is an independent not-for-profit charity on a mission to increase the supply of accommodation for homeless youth, and ongoing support for initiatives that have a tangible impact on youth homelessness, through partnerships with other charities, companies and staff in the property and construction industry.
Although we’ve developed a strong reputation in the property industry as a long-time supporter of arts and culture in Sydney, most visibly through the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi and the South Sydney Rabbitohs, we’ve also supported several other equally as worthy charities and causes outside of the arts, such at the PIF.
While the promotion and appreciation of arts and culture, and the intrinsic learnings we can all garner from it, is indeed close to our hearts, if you don’t have a safe and consistent roof over your head, this can seem inconsequential.
Despite specialising in the delivering of luxury housing, we strongly believe having a home is a basic requirement for all Australians, regardless of age or financial standing. This is why we’re very proud to continue our support of the PIF.
Keep a look out on our social pages for our Aqualand team actively involving themselves and showing their support for the PIF at events such as the Hard Hat and Tour de PIF throughout the year.
Meanwhile, we encourage all our industry peers to also get involved, so that this housing gap can finally be filled.
