Aqualand extends partnership with the Art Gallery of New South Wales with the naming of the Atrium in its new building

Aqualand is delighted to announce that we’ve broadened our existing partnership with the Art Gallery of New South Wales to include the naming of the atrium in the new building due to open on 3 December 2022.

Designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect SANAA, the stunning space will be known as the Aqualand Atrium.

Located at the heart of the gallery’s new building, the Aqualand Atrium which reaches 11 meters at its highest point, will feature major artworks displayed on a rammed earth wall and in a sculpture gallery. Located on lower level 2, the atrium is where visitors will gather to enter the major exhibition gallery and descend the spiral stairs to the spectacular Tank space among other new art experiences.

Aqualand has partnered with the Art Gallery of New South Wales since 2016, and now as a leadership partner, we’re pleased to continue supporting its exciting expansion which is providing incredible opportunities for artists and the general community through the Sydney Modern Project.

The new building is the centrepiece of the 151-year-old Art Gallery’s transformation and expansion into an art museum campus with two buildings connected by an art garden.

Aqualand Managing Director, Jin Lin, said, “Supporting culture and the arts is deeply rooted in our DNA and we see great synergy between the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Aqualand. We’re very proud of our long-term partnerships with cultural organisations that make art accessible to all, which also includes Sculpture by the Sea, and Bondi.

“It makes me extremely proud to know we’re helping to leave a legacy for future generations to experience and appreciate all the forms of art that will be showcased in this amazing new cultural destination.”

Art Gallery of New South Wales Director Michael Brand said: “We’re deeply grateful to Aqualand for partnering with us to support the Sydney Modern Project, which is the largest cultural development to open in the city in half a century. The Aqualand Atrium is an important and central space in our new building that showcases major works and commissions.

“Our generous community of donors, partners, and sponsors have played a key role in enabling the Art Gallery to attract new audiences to experience great art and programs in new ways.”
